JAPANESE COMMUNITY SUPPORT NETWORK
Japanese Play-group and Study-club (JPS)
Our prime responsibility is the welfare and well being of young people in our care. We believe we have a duty to the young people, parents and staff to act quickly and responsibly in any instance that may come to our attention.
Training
We will ensure that a member of our committee and/or lead tutor attend Child Protection Training regularly to ensure that our group is familiar with current Child Protection legislation and best practice.

The discussion will also be recorded and the parent will have access to such records.
If there is any further query regarding the injury the local authority will be notified.
Neglect
Action will be taken under this heading if the workers have reason to believe that there has
been constant or severe neglect of a young person(s), which results in serious harm to the
young person health or development.

Where a young person is preoccupied with sexual matters or has inappropriate knowledge of adult sexual behaviour
Procedure:
The observed incidents will be recorded accurately and confidentially.
Only workers and the lead person (who is the registered person for the group) will be informed.
Registered person of the group to take the matter to the local authority.
Emotional Abuse
Action will be taken under this heading if the workers have reason to believe that there is a severe, adverse effect on the behaviour and emotional development of a child caused by persistent or severe ill treatment or rejection.
Procedure:
The concern will be discussed with the parent.
The discussion will be recorded confidentially and the parent will have access to such records.
Workers will build up trusting and supportive relationships between families and staff.
If a suspicion of abuse arises the school will continue to welcome the child and family while investigations proceed.
The School will support and work with the child’s family but the care and safety of the child is always paramount.
Staffing
It will be made clear that posts are exempt from the provisions of the rehabilitations of Offenders Act 1974
All applicants for work with the young people will be interviewed and asked to provide at least two references. These will always be followed up.
All appointments will be subject to a probationary period and will only be confirmed when suitability has been proven.
The organisation will ensure all staff is familiar with the child protection handbook.
If any of the staff are accused of child abuse, this will be followed up urgently. The member of staff will be asked for their report and will be suspended pending investigation. Should any of the other workers not be happy in the way a worker is treating the young people they should report this to the lead tutor.
Should the complaint be about the lead tutor they should speak to the Chair.
No adult should ever be left alone with any child whether they have accused of abuse or not.
